MANATU (Pronunciation Game)

Each card has a phonetic clue in the corner to help you pronounce the vowel blend in the word on the card.  Use these cards to play 'SNAP' where each player pronounces their word as they lay down their card.  Or try 'MEMORY' by laying all the cards face down and take turns to find pairs, saying each sound as you turn a card over. Then there's 'FISH', where you ask another player if they have a word to pair with one of your cards.  "Do you have 'MAU'?

Kia kaha te ngahau!  Have fun with pronunciation!

WAHA KŌRERO 1 (Card Game)

This game is like 'LAST CARD'. Each player receives 5 cards and the aim is to use all your cards first. All players agree on a topic and a time limit for sentence creation, then Player 1 places a card face-up in the middle and says a sentence that relates to the topic. Players take turns saying sentences about the topic, using the phrase on their card to start, join or end a sentence.  The group decides whether a sentence is acceptable. If you can't use a card to say a sentence within the time limit, you pick up a card from the deck and the next player takes their turn.  Continue until someone wins, then change the topic! Tukua te reo kia rere!

KĀHUI 1 (Card Game)

Kahui 1.HEIC

This game is like GIN RUMMY. Each player is dealt 5 cards. Then, take turns picking up from the middle deck until you can lay down a kāhui or set of at least 3 cards with the same sound.  Only players who have laid down a kāhui can then add single cards to other kāhui already laid down.  As you lay down a single card or a kāhui, say each sound in the set to practise your pronunciation.

The first player with no cards left wins!

Kia kaha!
